Notice that a small child observes his/her world through fully open eyes? The child is open to being stimulated and educated by a world that is a mystery as well as an opportunity. To be curious about one's environment is a start to investigating beyond the apparent, beyond ordinary
perception. To accept a predigested, fabricated explanation for one's curiosity is to be satisfied with a lick of ice cream or crumbs as a substitute for a full meal. When we fail to make that distinction one's eyelids start to narrow, as in old people, and the adventure of being fully engaged with life diminishes.
